Ashbury College - Centre for Science and Innovation | Ottawa, ON

Client: The Board of Governors of Ashbury College
Over the past fifteen years MCROBIE Architects + Interior Designers has contributed to several major expansions at Ottawa’s distinguished Ashbury College. Established in 1891, Ashbury College is a leading independent school for boys and girls, grades four to twelve, and has been located in the Rockcliffe Park neighbourhood for over 100 years.
In our most recent collaboration with the college, McRobie Architects + Interior Designers developed the new state-of-the-art Centre for Science and Innovation. This new facility is 40% larger than the former facility and provides seven university-level labs serving general science, environmental studies, biology, chemistry and physics. It houses a new innovation classroom and media lab, terrarium and touch-down workspaces, as well as various improvements to existing facilities.
The Centre for Science and Innovation sits at an intersection of Ashbury College’s architectural past and future. The building’s adjacency to the early 20th century Memorial Chapel and Heritage Wing provides for a harmonious bridge between the school’s cherished history and the Centre for Science and Innovation’s contemporary design and programming.
